The Kutztown University South Africa Curriculum Research project is run by Dr. Tabetha Bernstein-Danis and her four research assistants: Emily Rudderow, Madison Bellesfield, Morgan Dobrosielski and Jennifer Jenkins. The aim of this program is to work with One Heart Source and the children of the GIFTED community to develop and implement culturally responsive and intensive literacy interventions. This project was initially started in 2017 after Dr. Bernstein-Danis took her first cohort of students to South Africa for SPU316, a class focused on Literacy Development and Instruction. She and her students took such a deep interest in developing materials for the students they partnered with, that extensive research seemed like the natural next step.
